Go watch Biriyani – 'A Venkat Prabhu's
Diet' for the director's treatment for a wafer thin story with the right
mix of ingredients namely comedy and thrill...
Performances:
Karthi has to be lauded
for his performance that is aligned with various manifestations such as
Playful, confused and saturation. Karthi is perfect for the play boy
character in the film and his colored hair and contact lens lifted up
the role.
Premgi Amaren Played
the other important role in Biriyani as Karthi's friend. Premgie has
equally complemented the film's success with his comedy and timing in
the first half and throughout Biriyani.
Unfortunately, Hansika has
very little to perform and she has lived up to the role. Hansika is
more a glamour quotient and has lightened the screen in a couple of
songs.
Nasser, Mandy Takhar has sone their job. Though Jai has done a cameo, he will be remembered.
Technical Analysis:
Director Venkat Prabhu has got
consecutive fifth hit with Biriyani and the director stood untouched for
his additive screenplay and narration style.
Yuvan Shankar Raja's trade mark 100th
musical is observed more in Biriyani audio album than the background
scores, though they are at regular Yuvan's best. Theme music and Bay of
Bengal tracks are good and nicely shot.
Sakthi Saravanan has well captured the color tones with expertise, especially the party song and dark night sequences.
Praveen KL and Srikanth NB could have
trimmed Biriyani first half and flying fight stunt sequence in the
second half is well pictured.
Analysis:
Venkat Prabhu has to be appreciated for
choosing apt ingredients for his diet, which needed to be simpler in
parts. Tribute song to Ajith by collating Labour day to Thala birthday
is worth mentioning. First half of Biriyani is good with racy screenplay
and scenes like 'Neenga rendu per car pathidhana pesitrikinge' by
premji are hilarious. Chickmeter scene with Bombastic theme and Karthi's
playboy scene, Theme music and Bay of Bengal tracks are few highlights
of Biriyani.
There is common point between Saroja,
Mankatha and Biriyani that is Venkat Prabhu style of narration. Twists
start few minutes before interval bang with hunt for Biriyani and gets
unfold in the climax.
Final Verdict: Venkat Prabhu's Biriyani could have been tastier...
